The Bangor Y offers a large variety of group exercise classes per week for those ages 14 years and up! Choose from land-based or aquatic classes, cardiac rehab, adapted fitness, even martial arts. Maybe you need a little more help? Make an appointment with one of our personal trainers available for kids and adults. We have two fully-equipped workout rooms, three exercise studios, two pools and a rehab workout room. See schedule for days and times. Registrants get priority but members may drop into programs if space is available. Class descriptions below. Cardio Baby (NEW) New Moms! This class is a great way to get back in shape. Bring your baby and your stroller. You will involve your child in the class such as performing lunges while pushing the stroller etc. Some of the class is done without the child as they watch or nap in the stroller. Times/Location: Mon and Weds 11:00-11:45, Hammond Street Gym Cardio Mix 45 minutes of heart pumping cardio followed by 15 minutes of abs and stretching. Instructors will utiize different forms of cardio such as step, floor aerobics, drills, kickboxing and more. Times:Wed 5:45 am Cardio Step Designed for the experienced participant, this class will make you sweat! 45 minutes of intermediate-advanced step choreography is followed by abdominals and stretch. Time: Mon 5:45 am, Mon/Wed 5:30-6:30 pm Fitness Yoga Combine yoga stances with fitness-based modifications to create a stonger, more flexible body. Less focus on spiritual aspects than traditional yoga while still emphasizing the blending of spirit, mind and body. Class is progressive, but newcomers always welcome. Time: Mon 5:45-6:45 a.m., Tues 6:40-7:40 pm and Thur 5:45-6:45 am, Get Fit-(NEW) We've created a class for the beginner/intermediate exerciser! This class uses simple, effective format of movement and exercise designed to get you fit and give you strength and energy for everyday life. Nothing too complicated. You will get a warm-up, a cardio-section, and a strength section that will work all the major muscle groups. Top it all off with a relaxing stretch. Now is the time to GET FIT! Tues/Fri 5:30 pm Group Cycling A great cardiovascular class utilizing our Lemond group cycling bikes with lots of classes offered each week. High intensity workout, but easy to modify and no impact. Great for all fitness levels. Reserve a bike the day before by calling the Hammond Street Welcome Center at 941-2815. Cycling is now included in membership . Times: Tue 6 am and 5:30 pm, Thurs 6 am and 5:30 pm. Saturday 8 am and Sunday 2:00-3:30 pm Group Groove (NEW) You'll stomp, flick, wiggle, jiggle, hip, hop, snap, shimmy, shake, slide, glide, smile, and laugh your way through this 60 minute fitness dance program. Experience a fusion of club, urban and Latin dance styles with motivating chart topping hits and retro classic tunes. Supportive, funky, easy going instructors help you Get A Move On! with Group Groove. Mon/Wed 4:15 pm, Tues 6:40 pm, Weds 9:30 am, Fri 5:30 pm, and Sat 10:15 am Group Power Group Power is your hour of power! This 60-minute barbell program strengthens all your major muscles in an inspiring, motivating group environment with fantastic music and awesome instructors. With simple, athletic movements such as squats, lunges, presses and curls. Group Power is for all ages and fitness levels. Discover results, discover Group Power! Times: Mon 12:10 pm and 6:40 pm, Tue 5:45am, 9:30 am and 4:15 p.m., Wed 12:10 pm, Thu 9:30 am and 5:30 pm, Fri 5:45 am, and Sat 9 a.m Step Interval Alternating cycles of cardio and strength training allow you to work harder during cardio cycles than in a regular cardio class. The bouts of cardio are shorter and followed by an active recovery period of strength training. An invigorating way to increase the calories you burn in class. Time: Mon 9:30-10:30 am Lunchtime Yoga End your week with an invigorating 45-minute yoga class. Increase strength and flexibility and decrease stress. No experience necessary. Time Tues and Fri 12:10-12:55 pm Turbo Kick The ultimate cardiovascular challenge complete with a sport specific warm-up, bouts of intense intervals, easy to follow combinations, kickboxing specific strength/endurance training and a Tai Chi like cooldown. Turbo Kick is the evolution of kickboxing utilizing techniques specific to the ancient sport of Muay Thai boxing. You can expect great music, hard work and a little bit of fun and funkiness thrown in too. Time Tues 8:15 a.m. and Fri 9:30 a.m. Women On Weights This class will teach you how to effectively lift weights for a stronger, healthier, and leaner body. This class is held in the Karam Workout Room at the Second St. location. Times: Tues/Thurs 8:15 am Women's Self Defense Clinics Learn practical ways to protect yourself. As a participant, you will learn physical movements designed to help you survive and escape an attack. This seminar is offered several times each year, and also offers guidance on how to be more aware and avoid dangerous situations. Members FREE, Non-members $25.00. Times/Location: TBA Yoga/Pilates Stretch Mix Includes principles and exercises from the worlds of Pilates and Yoga. Improve flexibility, core strength, and balance. Relieve stress and gain peace of mind. Good for all levels. Time: Mon/Wed 5:30-6:30 pm Adult Rehabilitation
The Bangor Y Rehabilitation Center on Hammond Street is monitored by trained Y staff and medical personnel to ensure a safe environment. Membership required. Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation is a group exercise program designed to support individuals with cardiovascular/heart disease and those with high cardio risk factors. Each class is led by trained, qualified instructors and monitored by registered nurses or emergency response personnel, all ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certified. A doctor's referral is required. Members only. Hammond Street Rehab Center M,W & F 7-8am M,W & F 8:15-9:15am M,W & F 4:15-5:15pm Pulmonary Fitness A continuous exercise program designed to meet the specific needs of individuals diagnosed with chronic pulmonary disease. The program will provide ongoing aerobic and muscle strengthening exercise supervised by a fitness instructor, a licensed respiratory therapist from St. Joseph's Hospital and/or Husson College Physical Therapy students.
