Bangor Y Mission

The Bangor Y is a community leader in supporting children, adults and families in their lifelong quest for physical, emotional and social wellness.

Donate

The Bangor Y, as a charitable organization provides opportunities for youth and families in the Greater Bangor area.  When you donate to the Bangor Y, your gift makes Bangor Y experiences possible for these individuals.  Whether you would like to support a scholarship for membership or camp, wish to subsidize a program, want to make a capital gift or choose to support the YMCA endowment fund.  Your commitment makes great things possible for our community.

Bangor Y staff are available to assist you in meeting your goals as a contributor.  Whether you would like to make an annual gift, include the Bangor Y in your estate plans, or make a one time gift.  We would like to help find a giving plan that best meets your priorities for giving.  Please contact Matt Daigle, Financial Development Director, for more information at 941-2808 or mdaigle@bangorY.org.

Planned Giving
The Bangor Y relies on the generosity of the community to help fulfill our mission.  Planned gifts help ensure that we will be able to continue serving our community in the future.

Planned giving involves a variety of charitable giving methods that allow you to express your personal values by integrating your charitable, family and financial goals.  Charitable gift annuities, bequest, life insurance, charitable lead trusts and charitable remainder trusts are among many options when considering a planned gift.

Your gift will enable future generations to experience the mission of the Bangor Y.  Memorial gifts may also be made in your name or the name of a loved one who believed in the Y or was part of our history.

To speak with Matt Daigle, Financial Development Director, about making a gift to the Bangor Y, call 207-941-2808 or e-mail mdaigle@bangorY.org. Thank you for your support of the Bangor Y.

Supporting Our Community Campaign
Children in a CircleFor more than 141 years, the YMCA has been developing youth, providing healthy activities and building leaders in the Greater Bangor community.  Through our Bangor Y camps, childcare, swimming, sports, arts, fitness, and after school programs. Bangor Y members have a fun, safe environment to develop a healthy spirit, mind and body.

Unfortunately, many are financially unable to participate in Y programs due to financial constraints.  The Bangor Y’s Supporting Our Community Campaign, previously known as the Strong Kids Annual Campaign, provides us with funds to offer scholarships and program subsidies for kids, adults and families who may not otherwise be able to afford these programs.

Everyone deserves the Y and through our Supporting Our Community Campaign, we can overcome the financial barriers and make the Y accessible to our entire community.  Through the resources provided by donors like you, the Y can change lives for families and children in the months and years to come.

Volunteer

Volunteer reading to childAs a non-profit organization, the Bangor Y relies on our many volunteers to fill key positions throughout the organization.  In 2007, the Bangor Y received tens of thousands of volunteer hours from thousands of volunteer opportunities with a value of nearly half a million dollars.  Volunteers helped in various roles as board and committee members, mentors, youth sports coaches and officials, camp construction and clean-up crews, nurses and emergency professionals in rehab programs, fundraisers, workers at swim meets, architects, advertising professionals, engineers, lawyers and more.  These donated services are the COGS that make our organization work. Thank you!

All of our program areas have a need for volunteers.  Program Volunteers may include teen leaders, chaperones, readers for pre-schoolers, swim team, sports coaches and youth mentors.  Volunteers are needed to execute special events and create successful fundraising campaigns.

Volunteering at the Y can be fun and rewarding!  Teach a child to kick a ball, supervise teens in our game room, greet members and feel good about what you are doing.

Volunteer Application

Support Volunteers are behind the scenes mentoring youth, working in the offices, preparing mailings, planning and delivering events and maintaining facilities.  Help us prepare a mailing, file paperwork, sort historical photos or be on a support committee. Inquire about Volunteer Opportunities at the Welcome Centers or call 941-2808.  It is Y policy to conduct a background check on all employees and volunteers.

We Need Mentors!
The JumpStart program needs volunteer mentors for each session. The commitment is one evening a week from 6:30-8pm for 8 weeks. Overseen by a facilitator, you will be paired with a youth during group program time only; sharing experiences, solving problems and assisting youth with goal setting and decision-making. Mentors must be 21 years of age. No experience is necessary. If you are interested in providing guidance and support for the youth of the Greater Bangor community, contact Cathy Hamel, at 941-2808.
