Bangor Pool Rules The following rules and regulations have been established for the protection of all patrons of the Bangor Y aquatic facility. Members and guests are required to observe these rules and obey the instructions of the Aquatics Staff. Those individuals violating these rules and jeopardizing the safety of themselves and/or others are subject to suspension or loss of membership.
- As per state law the pool may be closed when deemed necessary for the health, welfare, and/or safety of the patrons.
- At any time the on-duty lifeguard may request that patrons perform a swim test.
- This test is used to evaluate a swimmer's level of ability AND level of fatigue.
- This test consists of the swimmer swimming the width of the pool on his/her stomach and his/her back with a strong supporting kick and floating on his/her back for 30 seconds without moving.
- Individuals who pass the swim test with a flotation aid may use the shallow end.
- Supervision of children is the responsibility of a legal guardian. An adult must accompany all children in the water under the age of 3 years or who are unable to pass the swim test.
- Families are encouraged to bring US Coast Guard approved PFDs. Inflatable flotation devices are NOT permitted in the pool.
- Individuals who need a swim aid must remain in the shallow end of the pool.
- All individuals who are not toilet trained or have been recently toilet trained MUST wear a swim diaper while in the pool.
- WALK AT ALL TIMES on the pool deck and in the locker rooms.
- No one is permitted into the pool area with open cuts or blisters, inflamed eyes, contagious skin rashes, or any communicable diseases.
- Keep food, drinks, candy, tobacco, or gum out of the pool.
- Rough play or excessively boisterous behavior is prohibited in the pool area, locker rooms, or pool lobby.
- Glass containers are not allowed in the pool area, locker rooms, or pool lobby.
- To avoid entanglements do NOT hang on ropes or lane lines.
- NO swimming under or in between lanes.
- NO spitting, blowing nose, urination, or deposition of foreign matter into the pool.
- The starting blocks are for swim team and swim lesson use only.
- Diving is allowed in the deepest area of the pool only.
- Forward dives from the gutter only.
- No running, twisting/spins, flips, or partner dives.
- Recreational and training equipment is allowed, provided the lifeguard on duty does not deem it disruptive to the current pool usage and the equipment is used correctly.
- Do not submerge kick boards.
- Noodles, barbells, kick boards, etc. are not to be used violently or as noise makers.
- Please do not allow individuals to chew on foam equipment as this can result in a choking hazard
- Only individuals in appropriate swim attire may use the pools. No cut off jeans or cotton or jean shorts.
- T-shirts must be snug fitting; loose clothing can impede a swimmer.
- Long hair must be in a cap or tied back.
- Please remember this is a family facility when choosing your swim attire.
- Lap swim etiquette:
- 3 or more swimmers in a lane must circle swim (counter clockwise).
- There is a maximum limit of 5 swimmers per lane during open lap swim.
- Before joining others in a lane make sure they are aware of you.
- During periods of high usage the lifeguard may ask you to change lanes as the swimmers enter or leave the facility.
- When changing lanes do so only at the ends and allow those who are swimming the right of way.
- The lifeguard is on duty to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all. Please respect his/her decisions.
