F.A.Q.'S

1) Who are my child's counselors?

The majority of our staff are Leaders that are in college or older. We hire only 3-4 high school students as counselors out of a staff of 25 during the summer. This helps to ensure that our staff are more mature, have a longer work history and have experience working with children. Most of our staff are parents, college students, college graduates and teachers.

2) What if my child doesn't like an activity? Will they be made to do it?

No. Our Emerson Campers have afternoon choice therefore they should automatically like the activity they chose and want to particpate. If any child doesn't want to do an activity we will not make them. Our staff will try to encourange them to particpate or find an alternate activity that won't interfere with the group. We expect that children will cooperate with us so that they particpate in some activity.

3) My child is afraid of the water. Do they have to swim or how can you help them?

We will not make a child do any activity they don't want to. We have swim vests that your child may wear or you may pack your own. Swimming is an important life skill to learn even if they learn just to feel comfortable in the water. Our large in-ground pool has a shallow end that counselors use to help 'non-swimmers' feel comfortable. It is our recommendation that you send a note with your child explaining any situation regarding swimming so that it may be given to a camp director, your child's counselor and the aquatics coordinator. We have found that your child's counselor working one-on-one with your child throughout the summer will make a good deal of progress towards feeling comfortable in the water.

4) Can I pick up my child at camp? Can someone else pick up my child for me?

Yes to both. Please be reminded that until we know your face we will ask for a picture ID. If someone else is picking up your child they must be on the pick-up list and show ID. You may add anyone to the pick-up list at any time with proper notification.

5) My child missed the bus for the field trip, what do I do now?

On field trip days, typically Wednesdays, ALL campers going on the trip must be dropped off at the Bangor Y Hammond St. by 8:00am. If you have missed this time they can be brought out to Camp and spend the day with the Camp Webber Campers. This is only true if Camp Webber is not on a field trip the same day in which case there will be no one at camp.

6) My child forgot a lunch or I would like to purchase a lunch.

Lunches may be purchased each day for $5 at our drive thru drop off or at our drop off table in the gym. Just check off the choices on the menu and pay the $5 at that time. If your child forgot or lost their lunch your child will be given a lunch from the menu and you will be billed for the lunch to be paid by the next day.

7) Can camp be rented for birthday parties or other events?

YES. We love camp and we know the kids do as well. There is no better place to have a birthday party than spending it at Camp Peirce Webber's POOL, PLAYGROUND, BALLFIELD and NEW POOLSIDE PAVILION. See our Rental page for more details.

8) I am have some questions about camp during the summer, how do I speak to someone who can help me?

The great news is that typically a camp director answers all phone calls so you can have your answers immediately. The best hours to call are between 9-3:30. There is someone at camp from 7:30am-5:00pm each day but might not be available to get to the phone during the other hours due to the programming schedule. If that is the case please leave a message on the answering machine and your call will be returned promptly. The camp phone number is 862-3780.

9) I have never been to camp before and am not sure if this camp fits my needs.

That is a very good question and one most parents are to feel if never been Camp Peirce Webber. A Camp Director is available Monday through Friday at the Bangor Y until June to answer your questions. We have a open house on June 5th from 4:30-6:30 pm at Camp Peirce Webber in Hampden. Join us for tours, activities, and a BBQ for the family. This is a great way to meet staff, ask questions and see our great Camp. If you can't make this Open House please call Lance, Camp Director to schedule a tour in May, 941-2815.

10) Refunds, cancellations, changes to camp weeks etc.

Please understand that many camp weeks fill thus the need for a deposit to reserve your spot. Deposits are not refundable. Any refunds prior to June 1 are to be made in writing to the Bangor Y which will be processed immediately. After June 1 all requests must be made in writing to the Camp Director. After June 1, weeks that you have reserved with deposits must be paid in full.

11) Can my child come for just 3 days a week?

Yes, however all camp weeks are at cost. There are no pro-rated weeks except the 4th of July which there is no camp. Only Week 11 may you pay by the day. This is due to schools varying their start date.
