Camp G Peirce Webber History 1944-Camp Prentiss Day Camp established on woodsy site off of Broadway known as Prentiss Woods
1952-Camp Prentiss moved to current site in Hampden 1973-First Summer for Girls to be at Camp Prentiss location under the name of Camp Suvaca
1974-All Camp Prentiss programs were co-ed with Camp Suvaca, a first for this
1986-Sawyer Lodge built and Pool improvements done
1990-New Pool Liner, plumbing and filters
1993-New bathrooms and pool deck
1999-New pool supply and return lines
2000-Purchase of 4 acres along Emerson Mill Rd from Bob Emerson(Grandson of original owner) with funds from YMCA Foundation
2001-Feb. 15 Camp Prentiss renamed Camp G Pierce Webber
2001-June, New circulator pump for the pool
2001-December G. Peirce Webber passes away at 92 years of age
2004-Construction projects included Archery/Riflery Range, ball field beside the entering drive, 3-pod low ropes course, new composite pool deck, storage sheds. Camper programs were divided into 5yrs old-3rd grade Camp Webber program. 4th-7th grade Camp Emerson program began, named after the old Emerson Farm on the Camp site.
2005-New playground constructed and new pool liner was installed
2006-Construction began on the new Poolside Pavilion. Septic system completed and old pool changing room building moved. MISC 1946-Neighborhood clubs started
1954-1954-1970 YWCA ran programs for girls at the YMCA
1971- Value of Foundation $80,000 Value of Endowment Fund $471,936 Elimination of Residency which started in 1890 Tom Bailey, Dave Bryant and Chuck Plummer, gave to Park and Rec after 3 yrs because it was too big too soon.
1986-Started the Sports & Fitness Center operation on the University College of Bangor campus. Ended 2004 |
