Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Who are my child's counselors?
The majority of our staff are college age or older and are year-round Bangor Y employees. Having year-round Bangor Y employees as counselors gives continuity and familiarity between our counselors and campers who are also in our Before/After School Childcare and/or Rec Sports programs.
  2. What if my child doesn't like an activity? Will they be made to do it?
Our campers are encouraged to participate in all activities and are given options whenever possible.
  3. My child is afraid of the water. Do they have to swim or how can you help them?
We will not make a child do any activity they don't want to. We have swim vests that your child may wear or you may pack your own. Swimming is an important life skill to learn even if they learn just to feel comfortable in the water. Our large in-ground pool has a shallow end that counselors use to help 'non-swimmers' feel comfortable. It is our recommendation that you send a note with your child explaining any situation regarding swimming so that it may be given to a camp director, your child's counselor and the aquatics coordinator. We have found that your child's counselor working one-on-one with your child throughout the summer will make a good deal of progress towards feeling comfortable in the water.
  4. Can I pick up my child at camp? Can someone else pick up my child for me?
Yes to both. Please be reminded that until we know your face we will ask for a picture ID. If someone else is picking up your child they must be on the pick-up list and show ID. You may add anyone to the pick-up list at any time with proper notification.
  5. Can camp be rented for birthday parties or other events?
YES. We love camp and we know the kids do as well. There is no better place to have a birthday party than spending it at Camp Peirce Webber's POOL, PLAYGROUND, BALLFIELD and NEW POOLSIDE PAVILION. See our Rental page for more details.
  6. I am have some questions about camp during the summer, how do I speak to someone who can help me?
The great news is that typically a camp director answers all phone calls so you can have your answers immediately. The best hours to call are between 9-3:30. There is someone at camp from 7:30am-5:00pm each day but might not be available to get to the phone during the other hours due to the programming schedule. If that is the case, please leave a message on the answering machine and your call will be returned promptly. The camp phone number is 862-3780.
  7. I have never been to camp before and am not sure if this camp fits my needs.
That is a very good question and one most parents are to feel if never been Camp Peirce Webber. A Camp Director is available Monday through Friday at the Bangor Y until June to answer your questions. If you'd like to arrange a tour please call Dave Hamel or Cathy Hamel, Camp Directors at 941-2815 to schedule a tour.
  8. Refunds, cancellations, changes to camp weeks etc.
Because camp weeks typically fill up, a deposit is needed to reserve your spot. Deposits are not refundable. Any request refunds prior to June 1 are to be made in writing to the Bangor Y which will be processed immediately.  Weeks registered after August 1, must be paid in full.
