Amish Country Tour

May 16 to May 22, 2013

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is ideal cycle touring country!  All rides pass through picturesque farmland, covered bridges and traverse lightly traveled roads.  The terrain is more varied than that of the P.E.I. Tour with more rolling farmland and hilly roads, however, routes are very appropriate for cyclists of all abilities.  Visiting Lancaster County is like riding through the past.  The area is known for its Amish and Mennonite communities and it is common to see horse drawn carriages on the roads and teams of mules working the fields.  Cyclists will have the option of visiting numerous farms stands, old-fashioned bakeries, wineries, chocolate shops and Gettysburg.

The tour includes nightly campfire cycling"clinics" led by Erik, in which he will offer lessons on basic bike maintenance, riding technique, injury prevention and answer any questions from the group. Transportation, meals and accommodations are part of the package.  All meals are planned by Katie Mroz, the Bangor YMCA licensed nutritionist.
