We Need Volunteers!

This event wouldn't be the same without volunteers! With so many parts and pieces to a triathlon, we'll need volunteers to help us keep this event safe and to ensure this event runs smoothly. Being a volunteer is a great way to be part of the action! It's a great way for friends and family to not only help support the same cause as their athletes but to also cheer them on during the event. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt, refreshments during the day, and will get to be part of something special. We need 50 volunteers in a variety of positions to help us run this event smoothly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I wear for the race?
Some athletes wear a "tri-suit" that they can swim, bike and run in, but many also put on shorts over their bathing suit for the bike and run. Some change between each event! Just remember that there is no covered changing area in transition so our athletes keep some sort of swimming base layer on for the entire event.

Can I wear a wetsuit?
We will be following the USAT guidelines, which states that wetsuits are legal to a water temperature up to 78F. Between 79F & 83F, you may wear a wetsuit but will not be eligible for awards. If the water temperature is greater than 84F, you will not be permitted to wear a wetsuit due to safety reasons.

What's the difference between a wetsuit and tri-suit?

A tri-suit is a one or two-piece article of clothing that is designed for swimming, biking and running. They are made from quick-dry material designed for triathlons.

A wetsuit is made of neoprene insulated material and is often worn over a tri-suit or other racing garments. It is removed after the swim portion.

Will heats be assigned?
Depending on the number of registrants, heats may be assigned based upon your age/gender.

What time should I arrive?
As early as possible.
The transition area will open at 6:00am and will be closed by 7:45am for the race. All athletes MUST be set up in the transition area by 7:45am.

Where do I park?
Parking is 5 miles away at the Center Drive School and there will be shuttling to and from the Transition Zone/Race Start/Finish Line. Alternatively, you may be dropped off at the Transition Zone by Friends/Family members who can park their cars at the Center Drive School. All Athletes/Guests will be shuttled back and forth from the parking lot to the race. ARRIVE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE TO THE RACE.

What should I bring with me on race day to the transition area?
Bike, Bike Helmet, Bike Shoes, Running Shoes, Pre-filled Water bottles, extra clothes to change after the race. Lockers and showers are NOT available.

How do I keep track of my transition spot?
Your transition spot will be where your bike is racked. This will be clearly marked with your number and volunteers will be on hand to help you find your bike and gear. We suggest a small, bright towel next to your bike to organize your gear on. Remember you can always attend one of our transition workshops for suggestions on managing transition! Unfortunately, balloons or other signs are not allowed in transition.

Will there be professional medical personnel on hand?
Yes.

Are there any aid stations on the race?
Yes, there will be one at the transition area and one on the bike course.

What kind of bike can I ride?

Athletes may ride a bike from the following categories: mountain, hybrid, road or tri bike. Recumbent & tandem bikes are not allowed.

Do not ride a new or different bike for the first time on the race or arrive at the event with a bike that is not in good operating condition (tires included). Please be aware that there is no bike maintenance or assistance on the course.

How do I change clothes?
In your car or with a towel wrapped around your body. Public nudity is not allowed.

If you have any questions, please e-mail us at triathlon@bangory.org.
