Since 1982, the Bangor Region YMCA has provided Phase III Cardiac Rehab for participants who have been affected by a cardiac event, or have been diagnosed with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), to improve strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, and overall movement while engaging with others who have had similar experiences. Over the years, we have expanded our programs to help individuals focus on prevention and maintenance, as well as helping those diagnosed with POTS.

Our team of caring professionals will help you focus on three major areas to improve your health:

  • Cardiac Prevention is built on the success of our Phase III Cardiac Rehab program and focuses on exercise and nutrition to help increase general activity and reduce risk of a cardiac event.
    • Personalized workouts following FITT principles (Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type)
  • Dysautonomia Warriors is a program designed for people with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome).
    • Meets three times per week for 60 minutes each
      • Beginners will not use the full hour for exercise
    • Involves progressively overloading cardiovascular and resistance exercise
    • Participants begin with seated exercises and progress to standing exercises
  • Phase III Cardiac Rehab will help participants reclaim their physical wellness after a cardiac event.
    • Meets three times per week for 60 minutes each
    • Designed to further improve strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility and overall movement for participants of all fitness levels
    • Must complete Phase II to participate
  • Phase IV Cardiac Rehab will help those who have completed 6 months of our Phase III program further their fitness improvement with more intense workouts to help prevent further cardiac events.

  • Strong Connections at the Y using group activities, education, & mindfulness to increase social connections.
  • Support Groups & Weekly/Monthly Social Activities coordinated by our Y for participants in our Cardiac programs.
