We also offer three programs for individuals with specific conditions. These programs help improve the fitness levels of those who have heart conditions, those with arthritis and those who have survived cancer.
Phase III Cardiac Rehab
This is a community-based program in partnership with Eastern Maine Medical Center and is for those who have been affected by a cardiac event and is designed to further improve strength, aerobic capacity, flexibility, and overall movement for participants. Our instructors are CPR/AED certified and are assisted by volunteer medical professionals who are ACLS-certified.
This is an aerobic and strength-training program developed by Y-USA and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to increase physical, mental and social functioning of older adults, particularly those with arthritis. When regularly attended, it will increase balance, flexibility, mood, general activity level and independence.
LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA
In cooperation with the LIVESTRONG Foundation, Y-USA has developed this evidence-based fitness program to promote the importance of physical activity after a cancer diagnosis. This 12-week program will be led by specifically trained instructors to individualize the training regime for the individual participants.
